REENTRY PERMITS & ADVANCE PAROLE APPLICATIONS
If you are planning to travel outside the U.S. you may require certain travel documents depending on your immigration status. We can guide you regarding the requirements for travel and re-entry into the United States.
We provide assistance in obtaining and renewing Advance Parole applications, including emergency advance parole for urgent travel abroad.
Aliens in the U.S. who have pending applications for certain immigration benefits like an adjustment of status application, will need to obtain Advance Parole prior to departure to be able to re-enter the U.S. after traveling abroad.
If you are a lawful permanent resident and you plan to take up residence in another country, your U.S permanent residence may be considered abandoned even for absences shorter than 1 year. Also, if you are going to be absent from the US for one year or more your permanent resident card becomes technically invalid for reentry into the United States.
In both situations, it is advised to obtain a reentry permit in advance which establishes that you did not intend to abandon status. The reentry permit allows you to apply for admission to the U.S. after traveling abroad for up to 2 years without having to obtain a returning resident visa.
